Christopher Lord is a Professor at the ARENA - Centre for European Studies at the University of Oslo, Norway, since 2008. He concurrently holds visiting professor roles in the European Interdisciplinary Studies and EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies Departments at the College of Europe's Natolin campus. Previously, he served as Professor at the University of Reading (2004–2008) and held the Jean Monnet Chair in European Politics at the University of Leeds.
He earned a Master's in Political Science, Philosophy, and Economics from the University of Oxford and a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics.
His research focuses on democratic governance, legitimacy of the EU, and European integration. Key works include A Democratic Audit of the European Union (2004), Democracy in the New Europe (2005), and Political Parties and the European Union (1997). He has contributed to journals such as the Journal of Common Market Studies, Democratisation, and Government and Opposition.
Lord’s work bridges theoretical and applied aspects of EU democracy, emphasizing institutional accountability and transnational governance. His publications reflect interdisciplinary engagement with comparative politics, European law, and policy analysis.
