Christopher Griffin

Christopher Griffin is an Assistant Professor of Geosciences at Princeton University and an Associated Faculty member of the High Meadows Environmental Institute (HMEI). His research integrates paleontology and developmental biology to explore vertebrate evolution across deep time. He leads the Griffin Lab, which focuses on understanding major evolutionary transitions through fossil analysis and embryological techniques.

Educations:

• B.S. in Biology, Geology, and Molecular & Cellular Biology from Cedarville University
• M.S. and Ph.D. in Geosciences from Virginia Tech
• Postdoctoral work at Yale University’s Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences

Research Interests: Vertebrate paleontology, evolutionary mechanisms, developmental biology, paleoclimate studies, and anatomy. His lab emphasizes hypothesis-driven fieldwork in global locations including the American Southwest, Zimbabwe, and the Canadian Arctic, with a focus on the Triassic Period’s vertebrate diversification.
