Dr. Christine Johnson is a Lecturer in Audiology within the Speech and Hearing Sciences Division at Queen Margaret University (QMU). She holds a BSc (Hons) in Biology with Oceanography from Southampton University, a Graduate Diploma in Audiology from QMU, and is currently undertaking a part-time PhD at QMU exploring auditory brainstem responses in individuals with alcohol dependence syndrome. She is HCPC-registered as a Hearing Aid Dispenser and Audiologist, and an RCCP-registered Audiologist.
Her research focuses on two key areas: (1) using auditory brainstem responses to monitor neurological changes in individuals undergoing alcohol rehabilitation, and (2) improving hearing care provision for older adults in Scottish residential care homes. She is an affiliate member of the Clinical Audiology, Speech and Language (CASL) Research Centre.
Dr. Johnson leads the Diploma in Higher Education Hearing Aid Audiology program and teaches advanced auditory assessment techniques. She has prior experience as a research assistant at QMU and the University of Edinburgh, studying auditory processing in older adults. Professional memberships include Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and membership of the British Society of Audiology.
She co-applied for the Abbeyfield Society PhD Studentship and employs empirical research methods in her studies. Her work addresses critical gaps in understanding neurological impacts of substance use and hearing healthcare accessibility for vulnerable populations.
