Christine Ferguson is a Professor in English Studies within the Division of Literature and Languages at the University of Stirling, where she has been employed since 2016. Prior to this position, she taught at the University of Glasgow (2008-2016), the University of Alberta (2004-2008), and was a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of British Columbia (2002-2004).
Her primary research focuses on the entwined histories of the literary gothic and the British occult revival in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Her work spans multiple disciplines including Victorian Literature, Spiritualism and Occultism in Literature, Gothic studies, Literature and Medicine, Disability Studies, Neo-Victorianism, and Graphic Novels and Comics.
Professor Ferguson's scholarly output reveals a consistent focus on occultism within Victorian and early twentieth-century literature, with particular attention to the intersections of spiritualism, racial theory, and scientific discourse. Her publications demonstrate deep engagement with how occult practices influenced literary production during this period.

Professor Ferguson currently leads the AHRC Follow-On Funding project 'The Media of Mediumship: Encountering the Material Culture of Modern Occultism in Britain's Science, Technology, and Magic Collections' (2021-2022) in collaboration with the Science Museum Group and Senate House Library. She previously served as PI on the AHRC network project 'Popular Occulture in Britain, 1875-1947.'
