Dr. Jessica Gossling is a fractional-time Lecturer in English and Creative Writing at Goldsmiths, University of London. Her research focuses on French and English literary decadence, spatial theory, and occulture. She teaches Victorian literature, modernism, poetry, and literary theory. Gossling holds a PhD (2018) from Goldsmiths, alongside MA (2007), BA (2006), and PGCE (2009) qualifications in related fields.
Her work explores decadent aesthetics through thresholds, interiors, and occultism, with contributions to Decadence and the Senses (2017) and co-editing In Cynara’s Shadow (2019). She is Deputy Editor of Volupté journal, treasurer of the British Association of Decadence Studies (BADS), and co-founder of the Decadence, Magic(k), and Occult Network (DMON).
Publications span decadent spatial poetics, Arthur Machen’s occult narratives, and Huysmans’ architectural symbolism. Media engagements include BBC Radio 3’s Free Thinking - Magic (2020). Ongoing projects include a monograph on decadent threshold poetics and editorial work on the Oxford Handbook on Decadence.
