Christiane Grauert is a Professor in the Illustration Department at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD), where she has been a full-time faculty member since 2000. Previously, she served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at SUNY Buffalo, NY. She holds a Diploma in Graphic Design/Illustration from the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig, Germany, and an MFA in Visual Studies from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD).
Her interdisciplinary work combines hand-drawn imagery, found textures, digital collage, and innovative paper engineering for pop-up constructions. Grauert’s illustrations have been featured in prominent publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Harvard Business Review, as well as children’s books and educational materials. Her work has been recognized in national and international competitions, including the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles and Die schönsten deutschen Bücher.
Grauert’s creative practice emphasizes adaptability and unique visual storytelling. She has developed visual identities for German textbook series and created pop-up advent calendars.
