Christian Wolfrum is a Full Professor for Translational Nutrition Biology at the Institute of Food, Nutrition and Health at ETH Zurich, a position he has held since January 2017. Since 2023, he has also served as Vice President for Research and a member of the Executive Board at ETH Zurich.
Professor Wolfrum's research focuses on elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying the altered adipocyte differentiation and maturation associated with obesity and other metabolic disorders. His work bridges basic science with clinical applications in nutrition and metabolism, aiming to translate fundamental discoveries into practical approaches for addressing metabolic diseases.
His significant contributions have been recognized through several prestigious awards:
- H.P. Kaufmann Award (2000)
- Young Investigators Award by the EFSTL (2004)
- Starting Independent Researcher Grant from the ERC (2008)
- Rössler Award (2014)
Before joining ETH Zurich in 2007, Professor Wolfrum spent six years as a postdoctoral fellow at the Rockefeller University in New York under Prof. Markus Stoffel. He was appointed Assistant Professor for Obesity Research in 2008, advancing to Full Professor in 2017. In his current leadership role, he helps shape ETH Zurich's research strategy and priorities across the institution.
