Christian Edwards

Dr. Christian Edwards is a Senior Lecturer in Sports Coaching Science and Course Leader for the sports coaching degree pathway at the University of Worcester’s School of Sport and Exercise Science. He leads sociological, psychological, and research methods modules across undergraduate and postgraduate programs, coordinating final-year independent research projects. His academic roles include supervising postgraduate students within the Coaching and Performance Research Group and the Inclusive Sport and Physical Activity Research Group, focusing on projects involving national governing bodies, professional sports teams, and charitable organizations.

Dr. Edwards holds a PhD from the University of Worcester, alongside qualifications in Sports Coaching Science, Higher Education, and Sport and Exercise Science. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and actively contributes to cycling coaching and National Governing Body (NGB) training roles.

His research focuses on the psychology of resistance exercise, including psychological strategies for strength performance and muscularity-oriented body image. He also explores coach identity, workplace physical activity, and qualitative research methodologies. His work has been published in leading journals like the International Journal of Qualitative Studies on Health and Well-being and Performance Enhancement & Health. He frequently collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and serves as a reviewer for academic journals in his field.

Dr. Edwards has been recognized for his teaching excellence with a University of Worcester Teaching Award. His advisory work spans multiple PhD candidates exploring topics such as muscle dysmorphia, coach decision-making, and inclusive sport policies. He advocates for student-centered learning through innovative pedagogical approaches like blended project-based learning.
