Christi Kasa is a Professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS), within the College of Education. She holds a Ph.D. in Teaching and Leadership from Syracuse University (2002), an M.A. in Special Education from Chapman University (1998), and a B.A. in Liberal Studies from California State University Long Beach (1993).
Her research focuses on inclusive schooling, access to academics for students with significant disabilities, and meaningful communication for non-verbal learners. Current projects include a qualitative study funded by the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) titled The Early Childhood Literate Community: Supporting Citizenship for Young Children with Significant Disabilities. Key publications appear in journals like the American Educational Research Journal and Disability and Society.
Dr. Kasa co-produced the award-winning documentary Inside the Edge: A Journey to Using Speech through Typing. Her teaching includes courses such as Current Topics in Special Education and Teaching Students with Significant Support Needs. Professional experience spans elementary education in Southern California, where she served as an inclusion facilitator for students with significant disabilities, complemented by ongoing research and volunteer engagement in schools.
