About
Chris Thompson is a Professor at the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics (CITA), located within the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto. As a member of the Graduate Faculty, he contributes to advanced astronomical research and education at one of Canada's premier research institutions.
Professor Thompson's research focuses on high-energy astrophysical phenomena, with particular expertise in magnetized neutron stars and explosive cosmic events. His work spans multiple areas of theoretical astrophysics that help explain some of the most energetic processes in the universe.
His primary research interests include:
- Astrophysical sources of high energy radiation
- Soft Gamma Repeaters and Anomalous X-ray Pulsars
- Gamma-Ray Bursts
- Relativistic fluids and magnetofluids
- Supernova core collapse mechanisms
- Accretion flows around compact objects
- Intermittent investigations of the early universe
Professor Thompson is contactable via email at thompson@cita.utoronto.ca for academic collaboration and research inquiries.
