Dr. Chris Sharp serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Lynchburg, teaching music theory, arranging, conducting, and music appreciation. He leads the percussion ensemble and has prior teaching experience at Florida colleges. His professional background includes 13 years as a trombonist with The Walt Disney Company, and he has arranged music for Disney, Universal Studios, and orchestras like the Boston Pops and Dallas Brass. He holds a PhD in composition (University of Florida), a Master’s in studio writing (University of Miami), and a Bachelor’s in music theory (University of Florida).
Research interests focus on composition, orchestration, and scholastic music education. His works, including over 200 published pieces, emphasize wind band literature and have been featured at the Midwest Clinic. Awards include nine ASCAPlus Awards for excellence in published music.
As an adjudicator, he has judged for organizations like the Florida Bandmasters’ Association and Bands of America. He has conducted all-county groups across Florida and collaborated with ensembles like the USAF Airmen of Note, whose recording of his arrangement of “Caravan” (1999) highlights his professional contributions.
