Chris Lane is currently the Head of the School of Computing and Digital Media at London Metropolitan University. He has held various academic leadership roles including Senior Lecturer (2009–2015), Associate Dean (2015–2016), and Head of Academic and Business Partnerships (2016–2019). His teaching focuses on digital media, cyberspace, and interactive design, coordinating modules like Cyberspace, Technoculture and Virtual Futures and Responsive Environments.
His research interests span digital media theory, gender studies in technology, and new media art. Notable projects include Liminal - A Question of Position (2009) and Re-Possessed art exhibitions exploring participatory culture and digital narratives. He has published works on DVD analysis, web development, and media consumption patterns.
Lane secured significant funding including £58,000 for Digital Communities of Practice (2008) and £6,000 for Liminal (2009). He has also contributed to consultancy projects like Workonline (2002–2003) addressing telework barriers and e-learning strategies.
Externally, he has served as an examiner for digital media programs at Canterbury Christchurch University and the University of East London. His community engagement includes roles as a Trustee for the Hackney Youth Orchestra and Rainbow Community Nursery.
