Chris Grover

Professor Chris Grover is a Professor in Social Policy at the School of Social Sciences, Lancaster University, where he also serves as Deputy Head of School. His research focuses on social security policy, crime and inequality, and neoliberal welfare reform.

• Teaching: Courses include Crime, Poverty and Social Security, Crime and the Media, and contributions to Criminological Thought and Contemporary Social Problems.
• Research: Analyzes historical and contemporary shifts in income maintenance and labor market policy, emphasizing structural violence, macroeconomic priorities, and media portrayal of crime.
• Projects: Current National Archives research on the 1971 Family Income Supplement; past work includes Wyre advice audit (2024) and studies on disability benefits and austerity.
• Research Groups: Affiliated with the Centre for Alternatives to Social and Economic Inequalities, Centre for Child and Family Justice Research, and Centre for Crime, Law and Justice.
