Chiara Capulli

Chiara Capulli is a postdoctoral researcher at the Bibliotheca Hertziana, Max Planck Institute for Art History, where she leads the Lise Meitner Group and serves as an associate for the AC(H)E project at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florence.

Her academic background includes:

• PhD in History of Art from the University of Cambridge (2024), funded by an AHRC Lander Scholarship and Bibliotheca Hertziana predoctoral fellowship
• MPhil in History of Art from the University of Cambridge
• BA and MA in Art History from La Sapienza University, Rome

Capulli specializes in the impact of guasti (military demolitions) on Renaissance Italian urban landscapes and cultural heritage, with focus on Florence (1529) and L'Aquila (1532). Her research examines how communities salvaged artistic elements to preserve collective memory after destruction, integrating digital humanities to reconstruct lost architectural fabric. She actively develops methodologies for analyzing cultural heritage in post-disaster contexts through digital tools.
