Professor Chenyu Du is Professor of Biochemical Engineering at the University of Huddersfield's School of Applied Sciences. His research focuses on sustainable bioprocesses including fermentation, metabolic engineering, and biorefining technologies for converting biomass and waste into value-added products.
His work advances bioconversion pathways for platform chemicals like succinic acid, bioethanol, and biodegradable plastics using microbial systems. Current projects include textile waste biorefining, algal biomass utilization, and seawater-based bioprocessing.
Dr. Du leads the Biorefinery Engineering and Bioprocessing Research Centre and contributes to the Centre for Biomimetic Societal Futures. He has secured funding for textile waste upcycling projects and holds editorial roles in bioengineering journals. His lab features specialized fermentation, analytical, and bioprocessing equipment.
