Caixia Wan

Caixia 'Ellen' Wan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Missouri's College of Engineering. Her research develops technologies for converting biomass to value-added products.

Current projects include creating biochar panels for water filtration from lignocellulosic waste and converting food wastes into biodegradable plastics. Research spans biocatalyst development, metabolic engineering, and biorefinery system design to produce sustainable biofuels and materials.

Recent USDA-funded collaboration developed processes for upcycling food waste into bioplastics as petroleum alternatives.
