Chase McCoy is a Senior Lecturer at the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering at Indiana University. He serves as Parliamentarian for the Bloomington Faculty Council and co-chair of the Constitution and Rules Committee, and is co-director of Luddy Global Outreach. His research focuses on ethics in digital society, social informatics, data visualization, and social/ethical aspects of data science.
McCoy holds a Ph.D. in Information Science and an M.L.S. in Library Science from Indiana University, and a B.A. in English and Rhetoric from the University of Illinois. His recent publications explore themes of privacy, educational technology, and ethical data practices, with a consistent focus on unintended consequences of technological systems in institutional settings.
He has received multiple teaching awards including the 2025 Office of Student Life Gordon Faculty Award and the 2022 Trustees Teaching Award.
