Charles Daniel Carson

Charles Daniel Carson is an Associate Professor of Music at the Butler School of Music, College of Fine Arts, University of Texas at Austin. He holds a Ph.D. in Music History from the University of Pennsylvania (2008), with a dissertation titled "Broad and Market: At the Crossroads of Race and Class in Philadelphia Jazz, 1956-1980."

His research focuses on African-American expressive cultures, jazz, film music, and intersections of race/class in American popular music. He has taught courses on African-American music (AFR 315U) since Fall 2020, including both in-person and synchronous online formats.
