Dr. Charina Ramirez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Gastroenterology at UT Southwestern. She received her medical degree from UT Medical Branch in Galveston and completed her pediatric residency and gastroenterology fellowship at UT Southwestern/Children's Medical Center.
Her research focuses on lipid metabolism disorders including Niemann-Pick Type C disease and Lysosomal Acid Lipase Deficiency. Her current project investigates the effects of low carbohydrate diets in pediatric patients with metabolic syndrome and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. During her fellowship, she conducted research on cholesterol transport mechanisms under the mentorship of Drs. John Dietschy and Stephen Turley.
