- PhD: The Ohio State University (2004, Geography)
Kim’s work integrates GIS methods to analyze urban and economic phenomena, including traffic patterns, food deserts, rapid transit resilience, and Arctic climate impacts. His recent publications focus on multiscale spatial modeling, pandemic-era mobility shifts, and activity space analysis for healthy food access. Earlier studies examined network autocorrelation in commodity flows and spatiotemporal crime reduction effects of CCTV.
His funded projects include a $966,000 NSF grant (2011–2015) for the Circumarctic Lakes Observation Network (CALON) and local contracts like the Hamilton County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan (2012–2013).
