Chang Samuel Hsu is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Chemical & Biomedical Engineering at Florida A&M University-Florida State University, part of the College of Engineering. He holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Chung-Yuan Christian University (1966) and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Kentucky (1974). His research focuses on petroleum chemistry, hydrocarbon science, analytical chemistry (especially mass spectrometry), environmental monitoring, and biomass fuels.
Dr. Hsu has extensive industry experience, including roles as Senior R&D Technical Staff at ExxonMobil (1977–2006), Manager of BP Refinery of the Future (2006–2009), and Founding Director of the Future Fuels Institute (Florida State University, 2010–2012). He is also President of Petro Bio Oil Consulting (2011–present) and serves as a Faculty Advisor for the SPE Student Chapter at Florida State University.
His awards include the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and Exxon Incentive Award. His professional affiliations span organizations like the American Chemical Society (ACS), American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS), and Chinese American Chemical Society (CACS), where he has held leadership roles.
Dr. Hsu’s publications and patents reflect his expertise in hydrocarbon analysis, refining processes, and environmental applications. He has authored/co-authored numerous books, including the Springer Handbook of Petroleum Technology and contributed to influential chapters on petroleum composition and processing.
