Dr. Chan Yu is a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology's Charles V. Schaefer, Jr. School of Engineering and Science. He holds an MS (1995) and PhD (2001) in Mechanical Engineering from Stevens Institute and BS from Iowa State University (1990).
Research develops computational methods for electro-mechanical system design, including optimization algorithms for thermal/spatial constraints in assembly packaging. Created the CONFIG automated layout system using genetic algorithms and thermal analysis tools for electronic packaging reliability.
Teaches undergraduate and graduate courses including Engineering Graphics, CAD, Design for Manufacturability, and Additive Manufacturing. Recipient of the Kurt H. Weil Award for doctoral performance (2002).
Industry experience includes knowledge engineering at Design and Manufacturing Institute, developing ACES optimization software and corrosion-resistant composite valves.
