Catherine Pohlman

Catherine Pohlman is a Lecturer in Environmental Science and Management at Charles Sturt University (CSU), joining in 2023. Previously, she worked as an environmental officer at the Fitzroy Basin Association and taught tropical ecology at the School for Field Studies and James Cook University. She holds a PhD in tropical biogeography (2007, JCU) and a BSc(Hons) from ANU (2001).

Her research focuses on habitat fragmentation, climate change impacts on tropical plant communities, flammability of plant species, and sustainable socio-economic systems. She actively collaborates on UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly education and environmental sustainability. Key interests include ecosystem restoration, biodiversity conservation, and the integration of ecological needs with human land use.

Teaching areas include plant ecology, biogeography, and restoration ecology. Recent research outputs (2005–2024) address topics like rainforest regeneration, tropical ecosystem dynamics, and interdisciplinary projects like the Indonesia Torture Mapping dataset. She participates in academic forums such as the FOSH L&T Forum and contributes to public outreach through media features on endangered species.
