Catherine Larochelle

Catherine Larochelle is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Montreal's Faculty of Arts and Sciences. She earned her Ph.D. in History in 2018 and teaches courses including HST1010 Histoire: fondements et méthodes and HST6406 Histoire de l’enfance.

Research Focus: Her interdisciplinary work examines colonialism, childhood, nationalism, and racism in Quebec and Canadian contexts, with emphasis on 19th-20th century religious orders, education systems, and Indigenous-settler dynamics. She critically analyzes how imperialism shaped cultural narratives and identity formation.

Publications: Larochelle's scholarship includes the award-nominated book L’école du racisme (2021) and articles exploring missionary colonialism, collective memory, and childhood agency. Her 2023 publications demonstrate continued focus on racial historiography and Catholic institutional impacts.
