Catherine Keane is a Professor of Classics and Affiliate Professor of Comparative Literature at Washington University in St. Louis. She serves as Director of Graduate Studies and has held academic positions at Reed College and Northwestern University. Her research focuses on Roman satiric poetry, particularly Juvenal and Martial, and ancient literary criticism. She holds a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania.
Her work explores the emotional dimensions of satire, analyzing how Roman satirists like Juvenal engage with moral and social issues through rhetorical personas. Recent projects include a commentary on Juvenal's fifth book of Satires and studies of intertextuality between Martial and Juvenal.
Keane has received fellowships from the Mellon Foundation, Loeb Classical Library Foundation, and others. Her publications include *Juvenal and the Satiric Emotions* (2015), *A Roman Verse Satire Reader* (2010), and *Figuring Genre in Roman Satire* (2006).
