Catharine R. Franklin

Catharine R. Franklin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Texas Tech University. Her work focuses on the intersection of military history, indigenous communities, and transnational themes in the American West. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma and serves on the editorial board of the Southwestern Historical Quarterly.

Research Interests: Franklin specializes in the history of the nineteenth-century American West, emphasizing indigenous peoples, U.S. Army interactions, and borderlands dynamics. Her scholarship challenges traditional narratives of the "Indian Wars" through federal authority and transnational frameworks. She also explores themes in Weimar Republic and Third Reich police states.
