Prof. Alberto Carpinteri is a Professor of Structural Mechanics at the Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy, since 1986. He has held leadership roles, including President of the National Research Institute of Metrology (2011–2013), International Congress on Fracture (2009–2013), and European Structural Integrity Society (2002–2006). He also directed the Post-graduate School of Structural Engineering since 1990 and served as Head of the Department of Structural Engineering (1989–1995).
He earned Doctoral Degrees in Nuclear Engineering (1976) and Mathematics (1981) from the University of Bologna. His research focuses on fracture mechanics, reinforced concrete, nano-structured materials, and piezonuclear reactions. He has authored over 750 publications, including 300+ journal papers and 43 books, with an h-index of 31.
Prof. Carpinteri is a Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences, American Society of Civil Engineers, and other institutions. Notable awards include the Griffith Medal (2008), Swedlow Memorial Lecture Award (2011), and the Inaugural Paul Paris Gold Medal (2013). He has also served on editorial boards, including as Editor-in-Chief of *Meccanica* (Springer).
He was a Visiting Scientist at Lehigh University (1982–1983) and has held international roles with IUTAM and SEM. His lab, the Fracture Mechanics Laboratory, explores advanced materials and structural integrity.
