Caroline Dowdle

Caroline Dowdle serves as Vocal Repertoire Coach and Operatic Repertoire Coach at the Royal College of Music's Vocal & Opera school within the Vocal Studies department. She maintains significant affiliations with the Royal Opera House's Jette Parker Young Artists Programme, the Samling Academy, and the Academy of French Song and Opera.

Ms. Dowdle holds a Masters in Music from the University of Cape Town where she studied under chamber musician Lamar Crowson, followed by studies at the Royal Northern College of Music as a solo pianist under Renna Kellaway. She was awarded a two-year fellowship in accompaniment at the Royal Northern College of Music before establishing her career as a freelance pianist.

Her professional focus centers on vocal coaching and collaborative piano, with particular expertise in opera repertoire and French art song. She has developed specialized programs including the Samling Academy for young singers in Northeast England and the Academy of French Song and Opera conducted annually in France.

Ms. Dowdle has performed extensively throughout Britain and Europe at prestigious venues including London's South Bank and Wigmore Hall, Paris for Radio France, Vienna, and Moscow. She has collaborated with renowned artists including Sir Thomas Allen and has served as "chef de chant" for Opera de Rouen in productions of Britten's The Turn of the Screw and Albert Herring.

As Musical Director, she runs the Opera Academy at the Verbier International Music Festival since 2008 and maintains her position as staff pianist at the Britten Pears School in Aldeburgh where she worked alongside eminent singers and instrumentalists throughout her career.
