About
Dr Carole Farrell is a Lecturer in Clinical Practice at the University of Bolton within the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing and Department of Clinical & Biomedical Sciences, serving as Programme Lead for Advanced Clinical Practice. She teaches and supervises postgraduate students across MSc Advanced Practice, MSc Clinical Practice, and MSc Physician Associate courses, emphasizing apprenticeship pathways and advanced clinical roles.
Her educational foundation includes a PhD exploring oncology specialist nurses' roles through an ethnographic multi-centre study of chemotherapy nurse-led clinics in the UK. Prior to academia, she accumulated over 30 years of clinical oncology experience, developing nurse-led clinics to enhance breast cancer patient care continuity.
Research interests center on optimizing advanced practice frameworks, nurse-led service models, and patient experience metrics in oncology, particularly through her nearly completed PREM-SBC study for secondary breast cancer patients. This work extends her clinical innovations in chemotherapy clinic management and reflects her commitment to translating frontline healthcare insights into academic practice.
She maintains active research-teaching synergy, having previously served as a post-doctoral Research Fellow at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and part-time teaching fellow at the University of Manchester, while supervising diverse postgraduate cohorts in advanced clinical pathways.
