Carmine Autieri
Associate Professor · Condensed Matter Physics
Maria Curie-Skłodowska UniversityAbout
Carmine Autieri serves as Associate Professor and Group Leader at the International Centre for Interfacing Magnetism and Superconductivity with Topological Matter (Magtop), a division of the Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. He leads research group ON6.5 comprising two postdoctoral researchers and two PhD students, driving computational studies in topological quantum matter.
His academic credentials include a 2012 PhD in Physics from the University of Salerno (Italy), Polish and Italian habilitations for associate professor (2020), and Italian habilitation for full professor in theoretical condensed matter physics (2023). Prior postdoctoral appointments spanned Jülich Forschungszentrum (Germany), Uppsala University (Sweden), and SPIN-CNR (Italy).
Autieri's research centers on first-principles investigations of magnetism-spin-orbit coupling-crystal symmetry interplay, generating k-space topology, Rashba effects, and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions. He examines Anomalous Hall Effect, Quantum Anomalous Hall effect, and Quantum Spin Hall effect in bulk/interfaces, with recent focus on altermagnetism. His work integrates ab-initio simulations with experimental collaborations, including industry partnerships at Seagate (UK) for magnetic recording technologies.
His scientific recognition includes:
- MARIE CURIE Fellowship for NU-MATHIMO project (2015)
- Della Riccia postdoctoral fellowship (2012)
- Carl Tryggers Stiftelse grants (2014, 2015)
- SEED project grant (CNR Italy, 2018)
- Two ERASMUS+ grants (2022)
- Institute of Physics PAS Awards for best habilitation thesis (2020) and best paper (2021)
As an academic mentor, he has supervised two master's students (auxiliary), one completed PhD student, and currently guides three PhD candidates. His 85+ publications (h-index 21, 1200+ citations) reflect sustained contributions to condensed matter physics, supported by multiple international grants. He chairs conferences including the 2023 'Interfacing Magnetism and Superconductivity with Topological Matter' meeting and serves as referee for Physical Review X, Physical Review Letters, and other high-impact journals.
