About
Tomasz Dietl is an Ordinary Professor and Head of the International Centre for Interfacing Magnetism and Superconductivity with Topological Matter ('MagTop') at the Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, and a part-time Professor and Principal Investigator at Tohoku University's Advanced Institute for Materials Research, Japan. He co-founded the College of Science in Warsaw (1993–2001) and has held visiting positions globally, including MIT, Technische Universität München, and J. Kepler University Linz.
- Research Focus: Condensed matter physics, spintronics, diluted magnetic semiconductors, quantum transport, and topological materials.
- Leadership: Led the Group of Low-Temperature Physics (1986–2003) and Laboratory of Cryogenic and Spintronic Research (2004–2017) at the Polish Academy of Sciences.
Scientific Contributions: Pioneered studies on bound magnetic polarons, hole-mediated ferromagnetism, and spin effects in nanostructures. His projects include MagTop (€12M, 2017–2023), FunDMS (ERC Advanced Grant, €2.44M, 2008–2013), and collaborations in the SemiSpinNet and PHANTOMS networks.
- Major awards include the Marian Smoluchowski Medal (2010), Humboldt Research Award (2003), and Agilent Technologies Europhysics Prize (2005).
