Carlos Rodrigo Ribas González

Carlos Rodrigo Ribas González is a Full Professor of Construction Engineering at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), within the School of Industrial Engineering and Construction. He teaches in both the Bachelor of Construction and Master of Industrial Engineering programs, with teaching responsibilities spanning Structures I & II, Geotechnics and Foundations, Space Representation Systems, and Final Degree Projects.

Dr. Ribas earned his Architect degree and Ph.D. in Construction Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in 2013. His academic career progressed from Associate Lecturer (2008), to Assistant (2011), Lecturer (2015), and Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor (2020), culminating in his current position as Full Professor.

His research focuses on building technologies from a structural perspective, with particular emphasis on the introduction of smart materials like shape memory alloys in structural applications, precast and prestressed concrete systems, and energy performance of buildings. His work bridges theoretical research with practical applications through his architectural firm 7.12 Arquitectos, which he co-founded with Jaime Salvá.

Analysis of his 15 most recent publications reveals a strong focus on structural engineering, particularly shear strength analysis of concrete structures, innovative reinforcement techniques using shape memory alloys, and energy efficiency in building design. Dr. Ribas serves as thesis advisor for the PhD in Physics program and has contributed to two national research programs. Sneed (2022) and at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne with Professors A. Muttoni and M. Fernández Ruiz (2015).

He is an active member of the Construction and Structural Engineering (ConStruct) Consolidated R+D+I Group, where he contributes to collaborative research projects. His work on the co-authored book 'Problemas resueltos de hormigón estructural en edificación' demonstrates his commitment to both research and educational resources in structural concrete engineering.
