Carla Bobadilla is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Art Education (IKL), Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. She specializes in postcolonial critique, decolonial methodologies, and participatory art education. Her work interrogates colonial legacies in cultural heritage, public space, and museum practices. She co-founded the collective Decolonizing in Vienna! (2020) and served as co-chair of the advocacy group IG Bildende Kunst (2020-2024).
Education: PhD candidate at Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (since 2021), focusing on postcolonial analysis of Vienna’s Palm House. Holds a Diplom in Visual Arts from University of Playa Ancha, Chile (2000).
Research interests include decolonial urban exploration, gender politics, and translocal art education collaborations. Her projects like Vienna Latina (2024) articulate Latin American migration memory in Europe. She has exhibited at Kunsthalle Wien, MAK, and Wiener Festwochen, with works addressing colonial entanglements in Austrian cultural institutions.
Awards include the Theodor Körner Award (2007) and Women-Award (2011). She has led educational initiatives in museums and co-created performative interventions like Der Spaziergang als kollektive Methode des Verlernens. Active in advocacy roles, she currently chairs the board of IG Bildende Kunst and is a member of VBKÖ (Austrian Women Artists Association).
