Canan Atilgan is a Professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Sabancı University, Turkey since 2007. She holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Boğaziçi University (1996) and has been instrumental in biophysics research, particularly in protein dynamics and antibiotic resistance mechanisms.

Her research spans conformational multiplicity, molecular evolution, biophysics, and computational modeling of protein dynamics. Her recent work focuses on allosteric regulation, antibiotic resistance evolution, and efflux pump dynamics, with over 86 archival publications.
She has received prestigious awards including EMBO membership (2023), Academia Europaea membership (2023), and TÜBA-GEBİP (2004). She leads the MIDST Lab, supervises numerous graduate students, and actively promotes computational biophysics education in Turkey through workshops and outreach.
