Dr. Caitlin Hughes is an Associate Professor in criminology and drug policy at Flinders University's Centre for Crime Policy and Research. As President of the International Society for the Study of Drug Policy, she brings 18 years of expertise in criminal justice and health systems, with research focused on drug law reform, policing alternatives, and harm reduction.
Her work has influenced policy reforms in Australia, Canada, Portugal, and the UK, particularly in expanding drug diversion programs and reforming drug trafficking laws. Current projects include leading Australian Research Council research on methamphetamine supply in rural Australia.
Awards include the 2024 David Biles Correctional Research Award and Matthew Flinders Fellowship. She coordinates higher degree research in the College of Business, Government and Law.
