C.C. McKee is Assistant Professor of History of Art and Director of the Center for Visual Culture at Bryn Mawr College. Holding dual doctorates from Northwestern University and École des hautes études en sciences sociales, McKee specializes in modern Atlantic World art with emphasis on French colonialism and the Caribbean. Their research examines racial and environmental sciences through painting and scientific imagery.
McKee's monograph project Cultivating Visible Order analyzes representations of the francophone Caribbean across four historical periods, investigating how visual culture mediated colonial power structures while enabling expressions of Black personhood. Additional research explores contemporary African diasporic art, queer aesthetics, and the art history of science.
Their curatorial projects have appeared at institutions including the Block Museum and Ghetto Biennale. McKee teaches courses on 19th-century art, Black Atlantic visual culture, global Impressionism, and critical theory.
