Cécile Ruel is a Teaching Assistant Professor in the Department of French at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, housed within the Romance Studies School. She holds a Ph.D. in Modern French Studies from the University of Maryland, alongside an MA in French Studies and a BA in English Literature and Culture from Université de Caen Normandie and National University of Ireland, Galway.
Her research focuses on 20th-21st century French and Francophone literature/film, emphasizing contemporary narratives of migration, environmental representations, life writing, and feminist philosophies. She has expanded her work to include Québec authors and filmmakers. A proponent of experiential learning, she contributes to the ROMS Study Abroad Committee and co-organizes the biennial ROMS Film Festival.
