Bryon Greenwald

Dr. Bryon Greenwald is a Professor at the Joint Forces Staff College, part of National Defense University. With 34 years of leadership and education experience across academic and military institutions, he teaches courses on the Theory and History of War and Innovation and Change at the Joint Advanced Warfighting School. He also serves as the JFSC representative to the International Transformation Network and UK PME system, and co-chairs the National Defense University Research Council.

Dr. Greenwald's research focuses on military theory, 20th Century military history, and civil-military relations. His work explores the dynamics of military innovation, army transformation, and the military significance of ballistic missiles in tactical operations, drawing on extensive practical experience.

In his academic career, Dr. Greenwald has received multiple awards, including:

• Defense Communities, Military Leadership Award (2005)
• JFSC Faculty Recognition of Excellence Award (2010)

As an advisor, he has mentored 26 JAWS Masters Theses, including 14 award-winning projects, and guided 15 students to present papers at international conferences. His leadership roles include serving as Interim Dean of Faculty and Academic Programs at JFSC (2012–2013) and creating the JAWS Synthesis Trip across Europe, which he led until 2013.
