Bryan Dearinger is an Assistant Clinical Professor and Director of the Summer Sports Law Institute at the University of Oregon School of Law. He teaches courses in Legal Research and Writing, Professional Sports Law, and Ethics, while overseeing the Sports Law Institute. His research focuses on government litigation, bail reform, sovereign immunity, and sports law, particularly college athlete regulation.
Education: J.D. from Drake University Law School (Order of the Coif, Editor-in-Chief of Drake Law Review), B.A. from University of Portland (NCAA Division I athlete).
Research highlights include analysis of constitutional challenges to NSA surveillance programs and state NIL laws in college sports. He has authored articles in St. John’s Law Review and Oregon Law Review.
Professional roles include 10 years at the U.S. Department of Justice as a trial attorney, federal judicial clerkships, and service as Ninth Circuit Lawyer Representative (2019–2022) and Co-Chair (2020–2022). Currently serves on the University’s Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Committee and UOPD’s Officer Complaint Review Committee.
Active in legal organizations: President of Oregon Federal Bar Association chapter, member of ALWD’s Scholarly Publications Committee, and LWI’s Teaching Resources Committee.
