Bruce Simon

Dr. Bruce Simon is an Associate Professor in the English Department at SUNY Fredonia since 1998. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from Princeton University and a B.A. from Hamilton College. His career has been deeply intertwined with academic governance, serving in leadership roles such as Chairperson of the University Senate, SUNY Faculty Senate Vice President/Secretary, and executive positions in UUP (United University Professions). His research bridges U.S. literatures with critical studies of race, postcolonialism, and higher education governance.

His scholarly interests critically examine intersections of race, literature, and institutional structures. Notable publications include analyses of Hawthorne’s racial aesthetics and frameworks for digital activism.
