Dr. Saundra Liggins is an Associate Professor in the English Department at SUNY Fredonia since 2000. She served as Interim Chief Diversity Officer and Title IX Coordinator (2019-2021) and previously as Associate Chair of the English Department (2008-2010). She holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego. Her research focuses on gothic/horror conventions in African-American literature, Underground Railroad representations, and Black women’s literature. She has received awards for teaching and diversity initiatives.
Teaching interests include African-American literature, minority literatures, and gothic studies. Her work bridges literary analysis with social themes like race, gender, and historical trauma. Key publications include analyses of Colson Whitehead and African-American war narratives.
Awards include SUNY Fredonia’s Professional Development Award (2013) and a Canadian government grant (2010). She holds a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Certificate with Distinction. Presentations address racial equity in pedagogy and contemporary gothic works like Jordan Peele’s films.
