About
Bruce Monger is a Senior Lecturer in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. As a Stephen H. Weiss Provost's Teaching Fellow, his research examines ocean sciences with a focus on climate change impacts, remote sensing applications, and phytoplankton dynamics.
His research investigates rising atmospheric CO2 concentrations and their effects on global ocean ecosystems, including impacts on coral reefs, biogeographic shifts, Arctic ecosystem changes, ocean acidification, and expanding oxygen minimum zones. He established Cornell's internationally recognized Satellite Remote Sensing Training Program that has trained over 150 researchers since 1999.
Dr. Monger teaches: Introductory Oceanography (combining marine science with environmental threats), Physical Oceanography (geophysical fluid dynamics), and a specialized Satellite Remote Sensing Course (practical skills for ocean data analysis). He received the Weiss Provost's Teaching Fellowship in 2018.
