Dr. Bruce E. Altschuler is a Professor of Political Science at SUNY Oswego, where he spent his entire 40-year academic career. He earned his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Political Science from the City University of New York (CUNY). Known for his expertise in American politics and the presidency, he taught innovative courses like Women and Politics and Films About Presidents. His research spans political theory, film analysis, and activism. He authored seven books, including Seeing through the Screen: Interpreting American Film, and served as a political analyst for WRVO-FM. He received prestigious awards such as the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Research and the NYS Associated Press Award.
As former Chair of the Political Science Department (12 years), he recruited notable faculty and mentored countless students. Currently, he chairs Brooklyn For Peace, established an endowed scholarship at SUNY Oswego, and moderates election events for the Oswego Alumni Association. His activism and scholarly contributions reflect a lifelong commitment to social change and education.
