Bruce Barton

Bruce Barton is a Research Professor in the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School's T.H. Chan School of Medicine. He also holds multiple leadership roles at the Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in Population Health Sciences and Clinical Investigation. Dr. Barton earned his Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the University of Pittsburgh and has over 40 years of experience in medical research, particularly in clinical trials design and biostatistics.

His research focuses on alcohol-associated hepatitis, cardiology, oncology, diabetes, and animal science, with a strong emphasis on clinical trial methodology and longitudinal data analysis. He has directed 31 Data Coordinating Centers and served on numerous NIH study sections, including the NHLBI Clinical Trials Review Group.

Dr. Barton's recent work includes leadership in the DASH trial for alcohol-associated hepatitis and studies on smartwatch-based atrial fibrillation detection in stroke patients. His expertise spans biopharmaceutical collaboration, FDA submissions, and innovative trial infrastructure development.

He chairs the Library and Learning Resources Committee and co-chairs key institutional review committees. His contributions to emergency medicine, pediatrics, and veterinary medicine further highlight his interdisciplinary impact.
