Bruce A Barton

Dr. Bruce A. Barton is a Professor at UMass Chan Medical School in the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences, with additional appointments in the T.H. Chan School of Medicine and Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences across multiple departments including Masters in Clinical Investigation, Population Health Sciences, and Translational Science.

Dr. Barton is a biostatistician with over 40 years of experience in medical research studies, particularly randomized clinical trials. He has served as PI/Director of 31 Data Coordinating Centers funded by NIH and industry, and has participated in over 150 NIH study sections and 20 Data and Safety Monitoring Boards. His extensive experience includes multi-center/multi-national trials with various randomization approaches.

His research interests span multiple medical domains including sickle cell disease, cardiovascular disease, oncology, hepatitis, emergency medicine, and diabetes. He has made significant contributions to clinical trial methodology, longitudinal data analysis, and handling of missing data in longitudinal studies. His work on Transcendental Meditation's effects on cardiovascular health represents an innovative interdisciplinary approach.

Dr. Barton's recent publications demonstrate expertise across diverse areas including alcohol-associated hepatitis, cardiovascular biomarkers, clinical trial methodology, and digital health applications for atrial fibrillation detection. His work shows a consistent focus on methodological rigor combined with clinically relevant questions across multiple disease areas.
