Brice Loose

Brice Loose is a Professor at the University of Rhode Island and serves as a MOSAiC (Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate) Project Board Member representing Biogeochemistry (BGC). His responsibilities include establishing BGC scientific priorities and coordinating cross-team activities during the year-long Polarstern expedition drift through the Arctic sea ice.

His research centers on Arctic biogeochemical processes, with emphasis on sea-ice interactions, ocean carbon cycling, and ecosystem responses to climate change. This work directly supports MOSAiC's mission to quantify feedback mechanisms in the Arctic climate system through integrated measurements of atmosphere, ice, ocean, and biological components.

As a core member of the Biogeochemistry team during Leg II of the expedition, Dr. Loose addressed critical logistical challenges in provisioning water and ice samples for multidisciplinary experiments. His leadership ensures biogeochemical observations align with broader goals of understanding Arctic amplification and its global implications.
