Brian Monahan

Brian Monahan is a faculty member at Bank Street College of Education since 2015, teaching courses in the School District Leadership program. With over 40 years of experience, he has held roles ranging from K-12 English and computer science teacher to superintendent of five school districts. His career also includes building administration and community leadership, including serving as Mayor of Dobbs Ferry and Village Board Trustee.

Education: PhD in Education from Fordham University.

Research and professional interests center on educational leadership, district administration, and the intersection of technology (computer science education) with traditional curricula. His community service highlights include municipal governance and advocacy for public education.

Notable career milestones include his tenure as superintendent, where he valued the connection with staff and students—particularly the joy of announcing snow days. Current focus remains on preparing future school district leaders through Bank Street’s programs.
