About
Brian Kennett is Emeritus Professor of Seismology at the Australian National University. His research develops methods for seismic characterization of Earth's structure, particularly lithosphere dynamics and subduction processes. He led the creation of the Australian Seismological Reference Model (AuSREM) and served as Director of the Research School of Earth Sciences.
Research focuses on:
- 3D velocity structure of Australian lithosphere
- Seismic event location methodologies
- Wave propagation in heterogeneous media
- Subducted slab imaging
Honored with the Gutenberg and Lehmann Medals for fundamental contributions to global seismology. Current work utilizes dense seismic arrays to analyze crust-mantle interactions.
