Brian C. H. Fong

Brian C. H. Fong is a Professor at the College of Social Sciences, National Sun Yat-sen University, Taiwan, and a Professorial Research Associate at the SOAS China Institute. His academic work focuses on great power competition, democratization, and identity politics, with over 80 publications including books and journal articles.

He leads global comparative research on China's influence mechanisms through the concentric center-periphery framework, analyzing economic, military, and diplomatic impacts across Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Indo-Pacific regions. His recent edited works include the Routledge Handbook of Comparative Territorial Autonomies (2024) and Routledge Handbook of Great Power Competition (2024).

Dr. Fong holds a PhD from City University of Hong Kong, an MA in Public Policy (with distinction), and a BA in Government and Public Administration from Chinese University of Hong Kong. His research bridges theoretical frameworks with empirical case studies, addressing critical geopolitical challenges in contemporary Asia.
