Breonna Martin serves as an Assistant Professor of Biology in the Life Sciences Department at Harford Community College. She is a primary instructor for the SEA-PHAGES program, teaching bioinformatics and phage genomics courses.
Her research interests center on microbial biotechnology and phage genomics. She leads in silico sections of the SEA-PHAGES program, where students engage in phage genome annotation and analysis, contributing to the understanding of bacteriophage diversity and evolutionary science.
Professor Martin has instructed multiple sections of BIO 211 (Microbial Biotechnology) for the SEA-PHAGES program. In Spring 2022, she taught 6 sophomores; in Spring 2024, 5 students (2 freshmen and 3 sophomores); and in Fall 2024, 6 students. Recent sections have utilized Microbacterium foliorum as the bacterial host.
She is an active participant in the national SEA-PHAGES network, which provides undergraduate research experiences in phage discovery and genomics.
